Cyber bullying Research Paper - 1375 Words

Cyber bullying (Research Paper Sample) Content: Cyber BullyingYour nameName of ProfessorSchool affiliationDateINTRODUCTIONIn this new age, people are using the internet because there is a large database of information that they can use in their learning and/or exploring. In addition to that, there are other advantages of spending time online; for instance, people can communicate and interact with others on the various social networks. This diverse online world, however, comes along with several risks of which users need to be aware of; for example, cyber stalking, harassment that occurs online, and cyber bullying. Cyber bullying by definition is the use of electronic means inappropriately and distortedly; for example the internet and the mobile gadgets (tablets and mobile phones). This is with the aim of attacking people from time to time, especially those who cannot defend themselves, with the intention of hurting them or tarnishing their reputation. There are various forms of cyber bullying. These forms come about through the medium used; for instance, bullying through text messages, pictures and videos, phone calls, emails, chat rooms, instant messages, and through websites. However, there is increasing advancement in technology, and thus this method of categorization is bound to be outdated. This, therefore, means that the new categories will arise based on how individuals behave, (BeatBullying, 2014).Many studies have been undertaken to determine cyber-bullying prevalence. However, there are a number of terms used and the fact that there is no standardized definition. This makes it impossible to put results together and coming up with conclusions from studies that are limited. Electronic aggression cannot be measured also because there is no standard to measure it. Nevertheless, conclusions are made from the available information. For instance, many cases of cyber bullying are more of incidental instead of being repetitive naturally. Dehue et al. (2008), came up with an observation, which we can use as an example. There were Dutch respondents, over a thousand of them, whereby 17.2% of them reported cases of cyber bullying either once or twice in a year. A number of those victims, who were cyber bullied on several occasions, either once or twice in a month, were as low as 4.7%.The rates of victimization in relation to cyber bullying also vary a lot. From the previous years, the rates fluctuate; for instance, in May 2007, the rates stood at 18.8% and in November 2008, the rates had shot up to 28.7%. A mean obtained from seven studies, between the years 2007 May and 2010 February, shows that cyber bullying stands at 16.76%.A large number of cyber bullying offences were found in the following cases; comments that are posted online with mean and hurtful content had the percentage of 8.8. Online rumors also were on a large scale at 6.8%, and threats propagated through text messages closed the top 3 offences with a percentage of 5.4. All these statistics is drawn from a st udy carried out in 2010, (Hinduja Patchin).Cyber bullying has evolved from the traditional bullying that is well known. A new perspective from social cognition can be used to solve issues of aggression and violence. These perspectives are in three categories; that is: reasoning, learning, and thinking. Theoretically, if these perspectives are employed, they result in four approaches. These include attribution-retraining, problem solving and training of skills, therapy pairs, and change of curriculum and instruction. All these approaches are geared towards helping an individual control aggression. If cyber bullying evolved from the traditional bullying, then the methods used in solving the traditional way of bullying can be applied to handle the situation, if not, there can be a few adjustments. Empathy is one of the human behaviors that play a role in how people interact socially, how people use their emotions to communicate, and how they feel proper. From the definition of empathy , we learn that it is the ability of a person to perceive and understand the states of emotion of other people so that they can adjust or modify their reactions in terms of behavior. This means that, in cyber bullying, emotions of people are targeted. This is because if a person goes out to create rumors about another, or send them threat messages, it means that they want that person to be affected negatively.RAT, routine activity theory, can be used to come up with causes of cyber bullying. This theory holds that a deviant behavior occurs when three elements converge in space and time. These elements are a suitable target, lack of a capable guardian, and a possible offender. In this case, a probable offender is one who has an intention or is motivated to engage in deviant behavior. The intention is also vital to understanding why cyber bullying takes place. One major motive behind offenders of cyber bullying is revenge. Secondly, it is the issue of a suitable target. Among the youn g generation, especially, the internet is very popular, and it is used for communication purposes majorly. They, therefore, are prone to cyber bullying because they are regularly replying to messages, sending and receiving information, and it is now easy to meet people from all over the world in the social websites. Lastly, the absence of a capable guardian is an issue. If there are guardians who can protect the young children from cyber bullying, then this social crime cannot take place. It is also important to consider the fact that some of the offenders are young people. If they are not monitored in what they are doing, they may start carrying out cyber bullying, which to them is a fun thing to do, so that they can see their peers suffer from stress and low self esteem. However, there are measures that can be implemented to ensure that cyber bullying is no more. This means that the children, who are more often than not, the victims, need to be aware of cyber bullying. If these chi ldren know what cyber bullying is, and that they the various categories of it, then they can easily know when they have been bullied. This in turn means that they know what to do when such an instance occurs; for example, they can report such cases and the offenders are charged. If it is sending of sex messages to someone, then the offender can be charged with sexual assault. As for the adult generation, creating awareness will help reduce and eradicate the cases of cyber bullying. Perhaps the major reason why these cases go unreported is that the victims do not know what to do when they have been bullied. Some of them feel embarrassed about what is being spread a...

I Will Talk About Basketball - 1125 Words

Hello today I will talk about Basketball. I will specifically talk about the history of it, current, and the legends of it. I hope by the end of this Basketball will be your favorite sport as it is mine. The first subject I will talk about is the history of Basketball. Basketball was created by a man named James Naismith in 1891. James was told to teach a P.E. class at the YMCA training school in Springfield, Massachusetts. He was told to come up with a game to entertain the boys being coached by him, the requirements were that it could be played indoors though due to the fact that is was winter and freezing cold outside. (Basketball in America: A History par.1) James recalled a game the he and his friends played when they were young. The game was called or so they called it, â€Å"duck on the rock†, the idea of the game was to throw a small rock at a larger one in hopes of knocking it off a boulder. He also thought of a time where he saw rugby players, instead of throwing a ball into a net they would throw it into a trash can. He looked for a box but instead he found a peach basket so he put it up on a wall and grabbed a soccer ball. (It’s cool to think of the fact th at maybe if he used a box, today we would be using one too which would make the game tremendously harder) the main point of the game was to throw the ball into the basket. A cool fun fact was the according to â€Å"Alexander Wolff, in his book 100 Years of Hoops, Naismith drew up the rules for the new game in aboutShow MoreRelatedStar Basketball Player By John Updike1026 Words   |  5 PagesIn the poem Ex-Basketball Player, John Updike recounts the timeline of a once great basketball player named Flick Webb. On August 6, 1945 the atomic bomb was dropped on t Essay Example For Students

On August 6, 1945 the atomic bomb was dropped on t Essay he Japanese city of Hiroshima. The Enola Gay, piloted by Colonel Tibbetts, was chosen to make the mission. The mission was recorded as successful by Capt. William S. Parson at 9:20 A. M. This was an extremely controversial military strategy in the United States. Was the United States justified in the dropping of the atomic bomb? Yes, they were justified formany reasons. The primary reason was, that it would stop the war. Why is it that this war needed to be stopped so badly? Even though in some ways it was helping our economy, it was very costly in both money and lives. Also, the United States soldiers were undergoing harsh treatment by the unmerciful Japanese. Another reason the war needed to be stopped was to defend ourselves from another attack on U.S. soil, which in turn would kill many of our U.S. citizens. This is why the war needed to be stopped; thus, justifying the use of the atomic bomb. World War II was the costliest war in history, in terms of lives lost. No exact figures exist, but approximately between 15 and 20 million military personnel were killed. Of these, 292,000 were Americans and 6,000 innocent United States citizens were murdered by our enemies. It has been estimated that if the United States had not dropped the bomb and had invaded Japan instead, the United States would have lost about a million soldiers. The Japanese suicidal fighting strategies greatly effected this number. The Japanese would rather die than surrender. This is demonstrated by the battle of Saipan. At this battle over half of the population of Saipan walked off a cliff instead of surrendering to the United States. This was often very effective. Many times when a Japanese soldier decided to blow himself up instead of surrendering he would kill many Americans with the same blast. Also the kamikaze techniques of the Japanese fighters killed many soldiers. If this war would have continued we could have lost thousands more. Also up to this point we spent 300 billion dollars on war efforts. Many materials and other objects were damaged. Any estimate on how much money was lost in damages would be futile. This number would have continued to rise if it had not been for the use of the atomic bomb. The horrendous atrocities that occurred during World War II were unmerciful as well as unnecessary. During one invasion of China, the rape of Nanking, the Japanese killed 100,000 Chinese civilians. They were burned, butchered, and raped. Sometimes the Japanese would tie a big group of them together and use them for bayonet and sword practice. After the fall of Bataan the soldiers were forced to go on a death march. During this march many unheard of things happened to the soldiers. A soldier was often killed for trying to get a drink of water. If a soldier fell down the Japanese would either bayonet them or knock them unconscious. Once they were knocked unconscious, the Japanese then forced another American soldier to bury the unconscious soldier alive. One soldier once commented, The worst time was once when a burial victim with about six inches of earth over him suddenly regained consciousness and clawed his way out until he was almost sitting upright. Then I learned to what length a man will go to hang onto his life. The bayonets began to prod me in the side and I was forced to bash the soldier over the head with the shovel and then finish burying him.(Kappler, Pg. 168) This harsh treatment to innocent civilians and our soldiers needed to stop. .u7244016e67c99fd74f042fc762d4d31f , .u7244016e67c99fd74f042fc762d4d31f .postImageUrl , .u7244016e67c99fd74f042fc762d4d31f .centered-text-area { min-height: 80px; position: relative; } .u7244016e67c99fd74f042fc762d4d31f , .u7244016e67c99fd74f042fc762d4d31f:hover , .u7244016e67c99fd74f042fc762d4d31f:visited , .u7244016e67c99fd74f042fc762d4d31f:active { border:0!important; } .u7244016e67c99fd74f042fc762d4d31f .clearfix:after { content: ""; display: table; clear: both; } .u7244016e67c99fd74f042fc762d4d31f { display: block; transition: background-color 250ms; webkit-transition: background-color 250ms; width: 100%; opacity: 1; transition: opacity 250ms; webkit-transition: opacity 250ms; background-color: #95A5A6; } .u7244016e67c99fd74f042fc762d4d31f:active , .u7244016e67c99fd74f042fc762d4d31f:hover { opacity: 1; transition: opacity 250ms; webkit-transition: opacity 250ms; background-color: #2C3E50; } .u7244016e67c99fd74f042fc762d4d31f .centered-text-area { width: 100%; position: relative ; } .u7244016e67c99fd74f042fc762d4d31f .ctaText { border-bottom: 0 solid #fff; color: #2980B9; font-size: 16px; font-weight: bold; margin: 0; padding: 0; text-decoration: underline; } .u7244016e67c99fd74f042fc762d4d31f .postTitle { color: #FFFFFF; font-size: 16px; font-weight: 600; margin: 0; padding: 0; width: 100%; } .u7244016e67c99fd74f042fc762d4d31f .ctaButton { background-color: #7F8C8D!important; color: #2980B9; border: none; border-radius: 3px; box-shadow: none; font-size: 14px; font-weight: bold; line-height: 26px; moz-border-radius: 3px; text-align: center; text-decoration: none; text-shadow: none; width: 80px; min-height: 80px; background: url(https://artscolumbia.org/wp-content/plugins/intelly-related-posts/assets/images/simple-arrow.png)no-repeat; position: absolute; right: 0; top: 0; } .u7244016e67c99fd74f042fc762d4d31f:hover .ctaButton { background-color: #34495E!important; } .u7244016e67c99fd74f042fc762d4d31f .centered-text { display: table; height: 80px; padding-left : 18px; top: 0; } .u7244016e67c99fd74f042fc762d4d31f .u7244016e67c99fd74f042fc762d4d31f-content { display: table-cell; margin: 0; padding: 0; padding-right: 108px; position: relative; vertical-align: middle; width: 100%; } .u7244016e67c99fd74f042fc762d4d31f:after { content: ""; display: block; clear: both; } READ: Making the Atomic Bomb Decision Essay The atomic bomb was a way to stop it. On December 7, 1941, A day that will live in infamy, Pearl Harbor was deliberately attacked by the Japanese. Reports indicate that 2400 people were killed and 1300 were wounded. The reason Japan bombed Pearl Harbor was because that was where all of our Navy ships were positioned. They were hoping to take out the Navy and were almost successful. The aircraft carriers were expected to be in the harbor, but luckily were not. Although the attack may have been a military success in the minds of the Japanese it became a huge mistake in the final analysis. One reason it was a mistake was it caused the U.S. to enter the war. We were the ultimate cause to Japan losing the war. Secondly it made the Americans angry and determined to destroy the Japanese. Many congressmen volunteered for active duty, asking for a one day respite to cast their vote for war. Also recruiting offices were flooded with .

The Birth of a Goal free essay sample

As a child younger than four years old, I had watched Jerry thwart Tom in Tom and Jerry a multitude of times already. It never got old. This was the beginning of my love for animated television shows and movies. I also discovered a joy for drawing during that time period in my life. I grew up watching an assortment of animated television shows and movies. I was particularly captivated by The Lion King. No matter how many times I watched it, something about it just filled me with happiness. I was also engrossed with the shows Arthur, Pokemon, and Dragon Ball Z. Much of my time was also spent drawing at a table or desk. I also enjoyed walking around with my drawings and creating stories with them. While many children played in the gym at my afterschool daycare, I preferred to draw or watch animated television shows on the television there. It was just because I loved doing those two activities so much. Of course, I have changed a lot throughout the years, but I have retained my interest in art, creating stories, and watching animated television shows and movies. As I grew up, those interests developed and matured. I began using more mediums and creating different kinds of artwork. My artwork became more refined. My stories became more mature and well thought out. I watched more animated television shows and movies and became able to understand them more thoroughly. I had also developed an interest in reading manga (Japanese comics). One manga series I read is called Bakuman. It’s about two middle school students and their dreams of becoming manga artists. I admired their drive and determination to achieve their dreams. I was particularly impacted by the way in which the main character changed from someone who didn’t know what his dreams for the future were and had decided to just take the â€Å"normal† path, as he calls it, of getting into a good high school, then a good college, then get a job at a good company, into someone with such motivation to become a manga artist. Reading Bakuman was part of the reason why I decided I don’t want an occupation that I didn’t like. I want to enjoy doing what I do to make a living. I want an occupation in which I can use my love for art, creating stories, and animated television shows and movies. I also want an occupation in which I can influence people, especially children, positively, giving them joy and spreading values to them, and hel ping them improve their own lives and the lives of people around them. At first, I wanted to become a manga artist just like the two characters in Bakuman. However, I had to face the fact that manga just isn’t as popular in the United States as in Japan. Now, as much as I would enjoy being a manga artist, lack of income security isn’t exactly appealing to me. Also, I probably wouldn’t be influencing or helping a lot of people if nobody reads the manga I create. Then, I realized that creating animated television shows and movies would satisfy what I seek in an occupation just as well, if not better, as creating manga. This is how I came to have the goal of becoming an animator and eventually a director and/or producer of animated television shows and movies.
